_________The art gallery Atelier of Barcelona presents, under the generic name Amalgama, a series of screenings organized by Albert Alcoz. The programmes, focusing on some of the most challenging contemporary film and video practices, consist of projections in a diversity of formats such as video, Super8 and 16mm. The works shown define new artistic approaches and fluctuate between different aspects of experimental cinema, video-art, essay film, diary film and heterodox documentary.

The name chosen to identify these screenings of audiovisual pieces comes from the film title A-mal- ga-ma, by Basque cineaste Iván Zulueta, made on Super8 in the late 1960s. Aesthetically, A-mal-ga- ma is charged with references to popular culture and, through its thirty minutes of audio and visual delirium, elaborates a subjective perspective of the quotidian environment. This title is paralleled by the mixture of particular tendencies and the capture of different approaches to the medium that defines the film programmes.
